A Warm Welcome in Takayama: Honjin Hiranoya Annex Exceeds ExpectationsFrom our initial online communication, Honjin Hiranoya Annex in Takayama has consistently impressed us. Arriving on a chilly Thursday afternoon, we were warmly greeted with a shuttle pickup from JR Takayama Station. Upon arrival, we were treated to a soothing cup of green tea and a delightful local sweet at reception, followed by an efficient check-in.Our room and amenities were a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed the thoughtful touches, including socks, slippers, and a yukata for the onsen. The bathroom was well-stocked with cleanser, lotion, and toiletries. Breakfasts were served in a cozy private room on the second floor, featuring a delicious spread each morning—salad, eggs, sausage, and fruit, with a special apple jam treat. The staff's kindness extended beyond the hotel; they even offered us snow boots for a snowy outing and umbrellas. To be greeted on return with a towel at the door to dust the snow off our clothing was thoughtful. Our Western-style room with tatami mats and window screens was both comfortable and serene. The view from our balcony to snowed covered landscapes was spectacular. Honjin Hiranoya Annex's exudes a old time genuine hospitality, and their thoughtful amenities truly stand out for us. Dont get distracted by shinier hotels, instead look for service. Highly recommended! Thank you.

It’s a perverse ryokan. Everything from greeting in the lobby, to the room, dinner, onsen, breakfast- all was perfect. In the heart of Talayama, very close to all sightseeings as morning market, shopping and cultural street, jinja. Nice Yutakas and pretty cute onsen and even two onsens for women. Inwent to massage to the second onsen and it was a very traditional nice onsen and I was there alone. Loved it and relaxing massage. Food was perfect and very regional. There was a festival in August and we enjoyed nice and peaceful atmosphere in the city. Hotel has a shop where they sell so many things- I was very impressed by this hotel.

the hotel and its location were great .it’s the most important feature was it’s wonderful staff who helped us in every way. They personally took us to our room and showed us all the amenities they gave us our pajamas and kimonos for use in the onsen. they provided a shuttle if you reserve ahead from the train station the rooms were just refurbished and up to date the hotel is on the river just across from old town. Takayama is not to be missed. It’s small and easy to get around we liked it better than Kanazawa which is big and busy

The room was excellent and comfortable with great views of the river. The location is perfect - it's just off the main stretch so the street it's on is not too crowded, and everything is still just a walk away. The rooftop onsen for the guys and relaxkura for the ladies is a major highlight. Staff were friendly and attentive and most spoke english, if that's an important factor.

Martin

The room itself was extremely clean and large. I personally, was glad to get back sleeping on a western bed. Both the dinner and breakfast were exceptional. The number of dishes at the dinner was wonderful, together with the taste and presentation of the food. We still talk about it today.
